Using tags

In this layout I used the tags strictly for decorating purposes. On the left page I had a open space that had to be filled so that your eye could flow. The tags worked perfectly. On the right the photo was narrower than the decorations above. The tags under the photo created a larger space that could be used for the rest of that column .The camera in the left corner is a chipboard covered top cover for a booklet  which I used to journal in.

In this page I used the tags to create my heading. Each tag was embellished individually with different colors handmade paper, brads, eyelits, rhinestones and ribbon. All these embellishments were duplicated in the rest of the layout.

Creating a frame

Hi to all hope you are having a great day so far. This frame was created for a 5 x 7 inch photo. Cut 4 strips of card stock in the width you want your frame. Then cut a 45 degree corner on one side and measure 7  inches before you cut the second corner. The inner edge should be 7 inches cut two like this. Do the same with the 2 remaining strips 5 inch apart to create the shorter strips. Built the frame by attaching the corners together. I used eyelits and pulled ribbon through. You can alter the lengths to make any size frame to fit your layout.

Happy scrapping till next time Tanya.

Cheap and easy scrapbooking

I sometimes feel like keeping it simple and easy. With these photos I wanted to keep the emphasis on the message I wanted to portray and the beauty of this innocent little boy that makes every moment an adventure, even just  having breakfast.

One of the disadvantages of scrapbooking is that we can get carried away with all the lovely embellishments available to us and the beauty of the photos get lost. Sometimes we are trying to create a page with photos that doesn't work together. Then we can use the embellishments to create harmony or put emphasis on our message. In this case I really wanted to use as little as possible and have the focus on the photos.

Using card making techniques in scrapbooking

Incorporating die cuts in scrapbooking.

I have spoken to so many card makers over the past few days that I thought it would be fun to use  card making techniques to create a scrapbook page. I have used spellbinders die templates to create the boarders for these photos and the decorative blocks. This technique will work wonderfully with heritage photos.

Layout with many photos

This double page layout has 18 photos. I made a flap on the left hand side that created more space. The tags are decorative but can be used for journaling

When I insert this page into a album the flap will be stuck on the outside of the plastic cover with double side tape.  You will be able to turn the page and look at the photos behind the flap.

Using yarn

Using yarn to stretch you scrapbook supplies
In this layout I used yarn instead of ribbon. The yarn combined with the handmade paper and the tearing of the paper gives texture to the page. The frame is chipboard covered with paper decorated with ribbon.

Saving Money

Our life
I am going to acknowledge something we as
scrapbookers don't really want to talk about. Our hobby can be very expensive. Don't worry ... in my blog I will show you a few ways to save money by being creative with your odds and end leftovers that we sometimes don't know how to incorporate into our new pages.

I believe that if you make one outstanding page and the next one also nice but maybe by using some of your excess stock.Your final product all bound in an album will look spectacular.

Make an embellishment the focus point using all kinds of odds and ends that highlight the theme. I used tags, stamps, cutouts, words, punches stickers and floss to create this heading on the left.
On the right I created a double flap that can accommodate  more photos so instead of just having 2 photos in that space I have 10. This is the easiest place to put a flap if you're a beginner because you can just slide your page into your page protector and the flap will go over your protector so you can flip through it. If it sticks out at the top just cut the plastic of the protector 1 cm shorter. That will solve your problem. In the right hand corner is a little pocket that can also be used for multiple photos. Make a slit in your protector by sliding a piece of cardboard inside, take an craft knife and make a slit where needed. Put your tags in from the outside so that you can view them without pulling the whole page out.
Hope you enjoyed this post feel free to leave me a comment if there is something specific that you would like me to talk about. Till next time Happy Scrapping.

Pet heaven

Pet Heaven

This must be my favorite page of my K 9 babies. After a grooming session they looked so cute that I had to grab my camera. I have been looking for an opportunity to use this color combination for a while.  I embellished each letter individually to create my heading. Personally I don't like my handwriting visible on some pages. I made a little flap over the journalling that it doesn't take anything away from my page but I could still put a personal touch to it. I used handmade paper as photo blocks and ribbon  to create some texture in my layout. The rub ons that I used on the main photo on the right was from Making Memories

Travel page

Travel Page

This was a fun colorful page where I used buttons to bring the page together. After I did the layout, the page was dull and didn't have a unified look. The photos were different highlights of our holiday and didn't work together. By adding the buttons on the same line on the whole double page layout  the page came together . I used the map of the area we were visiting and indicated the different towns we visited with brads that gave the page a fun look.

Daddy's little girl

Daddy's  little girl

This page is a colorful fun layout. I blocked every letter of the heading separately. I played around with the subtitles by building embellishment blocks . This little girl still loves ice cream and is still  Daddy's little girl 42 years later...

Clipboard

Clipboard

I have been invited  to be a guest designer for Southern Ridge Trading Co. They have the most amazing range of chipboard  products. As you all know chipboard must be one of my favorite products to use. They are so versatile.

I have embossed these chipboard corners from Southern Ridge with "Razzberry" Dazzle detail embossing powder which gives it a beautiful pink shine perfect to enhance any project.

I used dark brown fluid chalk ink pad from Color Box to ink the photo and cardstock edges.

Over the Easter weekend I really missed my Dad. After I spoke to him on Skype I missed him even more so I decided to play around with one of my favorite photos of us. I have been wanting to decorate a clipboard for a long time so this was my perfect opportunity.I hope you like my end result.

Layouts for limited photos

Have you ever walked into a scrapbook store past a paper shelve and stopped right in your tracks in awe of a beautiful peace of paper that caught your eye. I was inspired by this paper and just had to use it for something.

The only problem was I didn't have photos that match the paper. After going through my limited amount of baby photo's, I had to make a plan.

These days we all  have digital cameras and can take many photos of the same day, sort through them and only save the ones we like. Back in the day my parents took lots of photos but not many in the same theme because they had to have them all printed  before they could see them. So like many of you I only have 2 or 3 photos per theme to create my layout. To make it even more tricky I prefer working on double page layouts.

I selected a few photos in kind of the same age group and printed them all out in sepia. Even though they were not in the same theme or color to start with they work pretty well on this page.

With this layout I only had 3 photos in the same coloring. If you look closely you will see that I used one photo twice. I printed them out in different sizes to fool the eye.

For this double page layout I only used one photo that I printed in different colors and sizes.

Double page layout with 4 photos not taken on the same day but kind of the same color and year.
